I’ve mentioned my sewing room clean up in previous posts. Norma, my Bearded Collie was telling me in her subtle way that I needed to get a handle on all these scraps.
Since a lot of my scraps were smaller pieces, I cut them into convenient 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 inch squares. After taking inventory, I had a lot of 1.5 inch squares to create something fun.
What to do? I made a butterfly!

Wall Hanging or Table Topper…you get to choose!
I know sewing all these 1.5 inch squares together may seem overwhelming, but I have a tip in the pattern that will help keep you on track. Before you know it, Flutterby Blue will be complete!
This is a great quilt for beginning quilters. You will get lots of practice cutting squares, chain piecing, sewing straight seams and color placement. Give it a try and have some fun!
You can download the pattern by clicking on this link: Flutterby Blue GBD 06 07 18
I’ll be posting this to the FaveQuilts website as well. Be sure to check out all the summer quilt patterns that are posted on this site, you won’t be disappointed.
OMG! That gnome is adorable!!! Love the colors on this quilt too!
Thanks! Mr. Gnome resides under one of my hosta plants…he’s always there for me!
Hi Cindy! What to do, what to do . . . all these pretty little 1.5″ squares. That means they finish at 1″!!! Holy moly – kudos to you. Too small for me. But somewhere is a stack of 2.5″ squares that would be calling my name if they could only find their way out of the hiding place. This pattern is SO CUTE!! I would definitely make this. Please PIN this in our shared group folder and I will repin right away. Happy Thursday! ~smile~ Roseanne
Hi Roseanne! This pattern would be great for 2.5 inch squares…give it a try! Sandy is our technology person, so she will be pinning this soon! Thanks for stopping by!
You are SO organized. I have started to cut my scraps into small blocks so many times, and never really get anywhere near being able to use them in a project. I love the butterfly pattern. Norma is precious!
Well…it did take me awhile to cut and organize squares by color but it was worth it. Glad you like the pattern…Norma is my sewing buddy and she keeps me from getting too wrapped up in any one project…she thinks she is my project and she’s right!
Great idea. I should do this.
It really helps me to have pre cut squares on hand. Although it took me awhile to get them cut and organized, I feel like I am in control…even though I am not! Thanks for stopping by!
I love the pixelated look! Your pattern is super cute- another for my someday list 🙂
Thank you! It was a fun quilt to design.
If you put Norma in a post then you know I cannot focus on anything else in the post. The first thing I did is turn my laptop to TTQH and squeal: “Look its Norma!”. Okay I did end up actually reading the post and the quilt looks great 🙂
Norma…who can say no to that face??? Glad she makes you and TTQH smile…she’s just so camera friendly AND I think she knows it!
What a creative pattern! Norma seems to be an excellent assistant.
Yes, Norma is a great assistant! She provides commentary for most projects!
