Porch Ponderings

Hello!  It’s Cindy reporting in from Ohio today.  I know spring is just around the corner because Punxsutawney Phil said so!

Since spring will soon be here (because I have no reason to doubt Phil), I’ve been thinking about pillows for my front porch swing.  Stop the press!  Check out this cool panel I found!zebra LargeBut wait, there’s more!  This porch pondering panel purchase includes two, yes two, different designs.  Here’s the other one.Elephant largeThe panels are fairly large and will make pillows that are 18 inches or more, depending on how big I make the border.  These bright colors will pack a porch pondering punch!zebra close upLike these panels?  Here’s the scoop on how to find them!  Fabric choice

Sunny Summer Days

My quilting buds and I decided to take a break from quilting and enjoy a sunny summer day in the park.

As you can see, Sadie is considering what food might be near that picnic table off to the right and Norma is guarding her stick.  Me…I am just relaxing in the shade, thinking about what food flavor of ice cream is in the freezer!

Sadie, Cindy and Norma

We were taking a quilting break because my neighbors, who just happen to be teen-age girls, or TAGs (acronym for teen-age girls) came over to make a table runner for their annual July 4th celebration.  What fun we had!  Fabrics were sorted and debated while listening to the latest top 40 hits.

Cutting was a breeze with the rotary cutter (after discussing safety rules, of course!)  Let’s just say flip flops and rotary cutters were making me a nervous wreck!

The design wall was a hit…lots of mixing, matching and singing to those top 40 hits!  They were in love with the blueberry fabric.

Looking good….sewing took a bit of time.

We had to test the “almost finished” project to make sure it was just the right size!

Good news!  We finished the table runner in the nick of time!  The TAGs and I are working on another project that I hope to show you soon!

Now, where was I before I got distracted by quilting?

Flutterby Blue – A Free Quilt Pattern

I’ve mentioned my sewing room clean up in previous posts. Norma, my Bearded Collie was telling me in her subtle way that I needed to get a handle on all these scraps.

Since a lot of my scraps were smaller pieces, I cut them into convenient 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 inch squares.  After taking inventory, I had a lot of 1.5 inch squares to create something fun.

What to do?  I made a butterfly!

Wall Hanging or Table Topper…you get to choose!

I know sewing all these 1.5 inch squares together may seem overwhelming, but I have a tip in the pattern that will help keep you on track.  Before you know it, Flutterby Blue will be complete!

This is a great quilt for beginning quilters.  You will get lots of practice cutting squares, chain piecing, sewing straight seams and color placement.  Give it a try and have some fun!

You can download the pattern by clicking on this link: Flutterby Blue GBD 06 07 18

I’ll be posting this to the FaveQuilts website as well.  Be sure to check out all the summer quilt patterns that are posted on this site, you won’t be disappointed.
