Ohio State Fair Quilts – 2019

Hello everyone!  It’s Cindy reporting in on my annual pilgrimage to the Ohio State Fair .

It’s always a family event to get to the fair early, eat something loaded with carbs, fat and sugar, then venture into the craft building to see the quilts.  The fairgrounds built a new craft building, complete with air conditioning!  Honestly, what could possibly be better than quilts and air conditioning on a steamy 90 degree summer day?

Since Ohio is the “Buckeye State”, I have to start by showing you this gorgeous Buckeye quilt.  As you can see, the quilting was incredible.  Some of the words to The Ohio State University’s alma mater were quilted into the outer border.
Buckeye QuiltThis Cathedral Window quilt was small and so pretty with the buttons added.  Cathedral Window with buttonsThe bright leaves and bright flowers really showcase this giraffe.
Gracie in brightsThis patriotic quilt was a real show stopper!
Patriotic paper pieceHere is a close up of one of the outer stars…clearly a paper piecing dream come true!
Star Close UpThis Baltimore Album quilt was absolutely amazing.  I took a few pictures to share with you.IMG_2007Here’s a close up of one of the baskets.
Up close basketI just love looking at all these quilts.  There are so many quilting and piecing techniques to study and enjoy.  I have lots more to show you, including the “Best of Show”…stay tuned!

Hi Cindy! I haven’t been to our State Fair in ages, but you are inspiring me to go. It opens on Thursday so there is a good chance – your timing is impeccable. What gorgeous quilts you shared! ~smile~ Roseanne

Thanks, Abbie! I appreciate the encouragement! When I see all these quilts, I start feeling insecure…but I just might make an entry next year…I have about 8 months to get my nerve up.
