Flutterby Blue – A Free Quilt Pattern

I’ve mentioned my sewing room clean up in previous posts. Norma, my Bearded Collie was telling me in her subtle way that I needed to get a handle on all these scraps.

Since a lot of my scraps were smaller pieces, I cut them into convenient 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 inch squares. After taking inventory, I had a lot of 1.5 inch squares to create something fun.

What to do? I made a butterfly!

Wall Hanging or Table Topper…you get to choose!

I know sewing all these 1.5 inch squares together may seem overwhelming, but I have a tip in the pattern that will help keep you on track. Before you know it, Flutterby Blue will be complete!

This is a great quilt for beginning quilters. You will get lots of practice cutting squares, chain piecing, sewing straight seams and color placement. Give it a try and have some fun!

Tropical Flight – A FREE Quilt Pattern

My $5 batik charm pack was the basis for this easy, beginner friendly quilt design. I wanted to make the border interesting and unique. What do you think?

In my March 29, 2018 post, I asked you, our readers, which color(s) would work best with my batik charm squares. The vote tallies were equally split between the lime green and the navy…so why not use both?

The green is Moda Grunge Basics Key Lime and the blue is Wilmington Essentials Crackle Navy. This strong, dramatic color combination is a show stopper when combined with the batiks. I’m already thinking picnics, porch swings, sunset watching on the beach, naps on the couch…the possibilities are endless!

This Just In: Free Table Runner Pattern!

This past weekend, I was nursing a terrible cold and had lots of time on my hands with nowhere to go. Alas, I got to sew with no holds barred!

I decided to use this cute Easter fabric to make a table runner…isn’t it adorable? The bunny fabric line is called Hop to it! ; designed by Shelly Comiskey for Henry Glass & Co. The green fabric is called Modern Melody Basic Filigree Geo Lime ; designed by First Blush Studio for Henry Glass & Co.

I am debating about giving away this runner as an Easter gift…but I also think it would look great on my dining room table with a few additional decorations.

This is an easy, beginner friendly pattern and it provides plenty of practice for making flying geese! Once the pieces are cut out, the geese come together quickly and you can easily make this runner in one day. As always, I used my trusted Bernina to piece, quilt and bind it all together.

Sewing in the Rain

It was a rainy weekend here in Ohio and I was recovering from a terrible cold. I was down but not out! I just sewed and sewed and sewed. Here are some of my masterpieces (if I do say so myself)!

I made this Sweet Heart Mug Rug for my friend who loves cats (you can download our free pattern by clicking on this link: Sweet Heart Mug Rug). Aren’t these cats the cutest? They are left over from some Cotton + Steel fabric scraps I had on hand.

Here’s another mug rug using pink, white and lime green scraps…I like this combo a lot.

Here’s a mug rug using a romantic black and white print. This black & white print used to be curtains; now up-cycled to another every day use!

After I got tired of making mug rugs, I moved on to quilt my husband’s birthday gift. Quilting this pillow took a long time BUT I am happy with the results.

Norma wanted to get in on the action so of course I took her picture….maybe instead of the fox guarding the hen house, the dog is guarding the fox house?
