Pillow Possibilities

Hi, it’s Cindy hosting our blog again today!

Possibility = Reality

I found this pretty buffalo check fleece and decided to make a travel pillow for a friend.  Who wouldn’t like a soft, cozy pillow when traveling by land, air or sea?  It’s very “packable” at 12 inches x 16 inches.

Since fleece stretches, I used the stretch knit stitch to finish the edges of the envelope closures and to sew the side seams.  I like the decorative look AND the fleece can stretch without the stitches breaking.

Here’s the finished product…I think I should will make one for myself!

Possibility Soon to Become Reality

I bought a tea towel with this fun vacation phrase.  I am going to find coordinating scraps and surround the phrase with patchwork.

The possibilities are endless…what would you do with it?  I’d love to hear from you…all suggestions welcome!

Stuck on the Border II

In a previous post, I was indecisive about what border and binding to add to my kaleidoscope pillow.  Thanks for all your feedback!

Rummaging through my sewing supplies, I found a package of Wright’s Bias Tape Maxi Piping and my plan came together in a flash!  I was no longer stuck on the border!

I added a black border to my pillow and used the red bias tape maxi piping for an accent.  This piping went on quickly because I used the zipper foot attachment for my trusted Bernina.  Yikes!  Lots of batting fuzz on my fabric!

My walking foot was put to good use as I made my way around the outside edge, stitching in the ditch of my seam.

Here’s a look at the back of my pillow.  It has an envelope back so I can easily slip the pillow in and out of the pillow cover.

I am loving my new pillow and well, we all know “there’s no place like home”!!!!!

FAMILY Pillow – Free Pattern

Need a gift for the upcoming holidays or other special occasion?  You can make this quilted pillow to share your love of family with those around you!

I wanted this pillow to look modern and sophisticated.  I think the Navy on White Damask by Riley Blake Designs helped me to achieve this look.

Kona White and Kona Navy for the letters and background helped to bring all three fabrics together for an outstanding FAMILY…ha!  Pun intended!

While testing and double testing the pattern, I made 5 pillows!  One of the pillows I made used Garden Girl Damask Pink by Zoe Pearn of Riley Blake Designs.  This pillow got some extra pizzazz with black pom pom trim.  How cute is this?!

If you decide you like the pom pom trim (or some other decorative trim), be sure to purchase 3 1/2 yards.  This will give you a bit of extra trim to match where the pom poms start and stop or to match other trim designs.  Since I had never used pom pom trim before, I found a great tutorial for adding pom poms to a pillow.  You can link to the tutorial here.

Fuzzy Faux Fur “Fun”

Our niece is in college and wanted a few pillow covers for her birthday (oops, that was in July)!

In order to make up for my belated birthday gift, I splurged and bought some of this luxurious faux fur.  It made a gorgeous pillow cover!

IMG_3102

I had a left over strip of faux fur so I mixed it with some fleece to make another pillow cover.  What a fun project that turned out soft and cozy!

IMG_3107

After admiring my work, I had to move on to the clean up….not so fun!  Fuzzy faux fur sheds like crazy!  Yes, this is what the aftermath of my creativity looked like!  I had to do a deep clean on my trustworthy Bernina.  Let’s just say the deep clean involved a vacuum cleaner attachment.

My floor looked even better than my sewing machine…ha!  I think the clean up took longer than the sewing.

P.S.  She LOVED her Fuzzy Faux Fur pillow covers!  Her birthday gift, although late,   helped me to maintain my status as her “favorite aunt”!
