I wanted this pillow to look modern and sophisticated.  I think the Navy on White Damask by Riley Blake Designs helped me to achieve this look.

Kona White and Kona Navy for the letters and background helped to bring all three fabrics together for an outstanding FAMILY…ha!  Pun intended!

While testing and double testing the pattern, I made 5 pillows!  One of the pillows I made used Garden Girl Damask Pink by Zoe Pearn of Riley Blake Designs.  This pillow got some extra pizzazz with black pom pom trim.  How cute is this?!

If you decide you like the pom pom trim (or some other decorative trim), be sure to purchase 3 1/2 yards.  This will give you a bit of extra trim to match where the pom poms start and stop or to match other trim designs.  Since I had never used pom pom trim before, I found a great tutorial for adding pom poms to a pillow.  You can link to the tutorial here.

Free Pattern: Christmas Joy Pillow

While Sandy was visiting, we went to the Red Rooster Quilt Store in Dublin, Ohio.  They have a great selection of 2017 Christmas fabrics in stock!

Jingle Toss by Maywood Studio caught my eye because it has a colorful mix of Christmas words and graphics.  I bought 2 fat quarters, a few coordinating fabrics and designed a pillow cover.  Here is the result!

Joy2

I designed the pillow cover to fit a 16 x 16 inch pillow form.  It’s the perfect size for my couch…not to big and not too small!

Joy4

I used three pairs of ties at the top of the pillow to finish the closure.  To make these ties, I used extra wide, double fold bias tape.  I think the red bias tape ties in nicely (oops…pun intended!) with the red “JOY”.  Here is a closer look at the ties, they are knotted at the ends for extra texture.

If you are a beginning quilter, this step by step pattern can guide you through this easy weekend project.

Patriotic Table Runner – Free Pattern

rwb_Thankful2Sandy and I wanted to share something special with you as we approach Memorial Day.  Upon reflection, “Thankful” says it all.

The men and women who serve our country are extraordinary.  It is hard to fathom the depth of their patriotism and sacrifice from the comfort of our homes.  These individuals willingly position themselves as a shield between our families, friends and neighbors and the perils of the world.  Let us be thankful for their courage, integrity, dedication and sacrifice.

Garden Gate Charm – Free Pattern

A new pattern just in time for spring!  We like to use pre-cuts because they save time.  Pre-cuts are also an economical way to use all the colors and prints in an entire fabric line.  We were attracted to this fabric line because of the red/teal combination and the garden theme.  A cute quilted flower design is a nice finish for all you flower lovers out there!

In addition to posting this free pattern Garden Gate Charm 03 14 17_final on our blog, we will also be posting it to the FaveQuilts website.

FaveQuilts is our go-to destination for quilting inspiration. When we first started blogging and quilting, we happened upon their website and signed up for their newsletter Piecing it  Together. Every day since we have received a world of new patterns and techniques all delivered to our inbox!

If you live in a rural area or lead a busy life, it might be hard to join a quilting group and FaveQuilts can serve as your own personal quilting group!  They have introduced us to new techniques and ideas about the huge world of quilting, from hand piecing, to applique techniques to paper piecing. We have met so many wonderful designers and bloggers because of Fave Quilts.   We love it!

We borrowed a neighbor’s windmill to stage the above photo…you can see the iron shadows in the background.  While there is not a lot of green right now, we know spring will be here soon!  If you get started now, your Garden Gate Charm Quilt will be ready just in time for a picnic or your front porch swing!
