Hello! Cindy reporting in from Ohio while Sandy is traveling.
I received a lovely gift from a Dear Friend (DF). It’s a framed print of a Ruth McDowell pieced art quilt entitled “Wallflowers” from 2007. Ruth’s pieced art quilts are near and dear to me because many of them depict every day scenes from rural America, they use lots of tiny scraps AND they are so beautiful.DF also gave me some fabric called Grey barnsiding by Deb Strain for Moda Fabrics.
While I was in awe of my gift, DF wrote this lovely note:
Our story began on a dairy farm with lots of “wallflowers” as Ruth might put it…Sandy, I’ll be coming home soon! I’ll be sure to bring the cows with me so we can reminisce and plan our own pieced art quilt with the grey barnsiding fabric.
Safe travels, Dear Sister (DS)!
I contacted you nearly a year ago asking and receiving permisssion to use your free pattern, “Sofa Siesta” for a fundraiser for our sewing group at Sunland Village East in Mesa, AZ. We are raising money to help fund a room that will be a dedicated space for quilting and other fiber arts. I am happy to tell you that the quilt our members participated in making brought $300 at our recent auction. We had enough blocks donated that we made another smaller quilt which will be sold at our upcoming quilt show. Thank you so much for a fun, colorful pattern and the permission to use it for our fundraising efforts. I would send a picture of the quilt, but don’t see an option for an attachment. Thank you again.
So much fun in this post — have fun playing with that fabric!
I hope to get back to the farm by tomorrow, despite giant snow/ice storm Kade
What a thoughtful DF!
