In Search of…

Cindy here, reporting in from Ohio where we have been in search of Morel Mushrooms for the past 4 days!

Spring rains in the Midwest, combined with warm temperatures mean the “mighty morel” pops up and the hunt is on!  These fungi are a true delicacy and are only available for about a week.  People have their favorite spots to hunt these beauties and no one…and I do mean no one… shares their secret location!

My dear husband (DH) found ONE after hunting all morning (in the rain) on Friday.  On the left is a morel before cooking and on the right is our single morel, cut in half, sizzling in the frying pan!  I say one morel is better than none!

Yesterday, we hit the woods again and I can’t divulge our secret location.  Unfortunately, we did not find a single morel, but we did see some other beautiful sights.

Lots of purple flowers greeted us in the woods.

I like the leaf as much as the flower in the picture below.

We did see some fungi, but not the kind we really wanted!

After our rainy walk in the woods, I thought I would do a little sewing.  I’m working on a new jelly roll pattern so I just mixed up all my strips and started sewing a lot of straight seams.

Norma joined me while I was sewing, but she was a bit exhausted from a rainy run in the park.

All in all it was a good day!

Norma…she’s my girl…she follows me everywhere, although she didn’t get to go shrooming with us!
