Ice Whine

Ice Wine is one type of wine that is produced in Western New York State.  It’s called ice wine because the grapes are harvested in freezing temperatures.  “What does this have to do with quilting?”, one might ask?  Please continue….

On Thursday, Sandy and I traveled to Chicago to attend the 2018 International Quilt Festival.  Our plans were to attend the festival on Thursday and Friday and head for home early Saturday morning.

We had an amazing time!  We saw so many quilts, talked to all kinds of vendors, watched quilting demonstrations, took two classes and shopped ’till we dropped.

My flight left Chicago on time Saturday morning time and I arrived back home with no delays.  SANDY…NOT SO MUCH!  An ice storm in the Buffalo area has delayed her return home.  She could not fly into Buffalo on Saturday or Sunday due to the icy conditions in the air and on the ground.  YES, SANDY IS STILL IN CHICAGO!

To make matters worse, she is competing with hundreds of other travelers to re-schedule a flight from Chicago to Buffalo and the western New York area.  Her new plan is to fly home today (via Washington, D.C.) and her 80 minute, direct flight has turned into an 8 hour, indirect flight!

CAN WE ALL SAY “ICE WHINE”?  Sandy, I think you have had many “ICE WHINE” moments this past weekend!!!!!

We will be sharing more of our Chicago adventures with you in future posts but today,  I’d like to share another adventure with you.

We are participating in the 2018 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop.

Friday Bits and Pieces - New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop 2018 -

Because there are approximately 30 new bloggers participating, Beth, Jen, Tish and Sandra divided us into four separate groups.  Gray Barn Designs is in the “Sunshine Quilters” group because we know spring is just around the corner…honest!  We chose a logo specific to our group and let’s just say we think it provides optimism after a long, unpredictable winter!

This week, 8 of our fellow new quilt bloggers are featured in the blog hop:

Stop by their sites and have a look!  It’s a great way to meet new bloggers in the quilting world and to pick up some new tips and ideas.  There will be giveaways during the hop, be sure to sign up for them!

Sandy, safe travels today!!!!!

Wow, poor Sandy! I hope the rest of her trip is uneventful, even though much longer than she expected. Rain in DC could make a slow start to the day there. 🙁

    Have fun with your blogfest!

    Hi Cindy,
I’m glad the two of your could meet up at the quilt show, and that you really enjoyed it! I am so sorry to hear about Sandy’s travels back home – oh so bad when you just want to get home! {{Hugs}} a bunch to Sandy. ~smile~ Roseanne

Oh, I feel for Sandy. We had a major snowstorm this weekend, leaving 18 inches of snow on our patio. I think she is getting some of the effects of that. Hope she makes it home soon. By the way, nice work on the badge for our hive!!

Ice Whine! Brilliant blog post title! Yes I know Ice Wine as I grew up in NY (Long Island and Albany). Sorry you had to deal with an ice storm! Sorry Sandy got stuck in Chicago (I think anyone who lived in the NE knows this well, I am sure I have been stuck at O’Hare before!).
Congrats on being the blog hop! 🙂
Oh and do you have a link from where you facebook live from the Quilt Festival? I am on facebook at Tierney Davis Hogan 🙂

Good news! Sandy is on her way home as we “speak”! We didn’t live stream the festival after all! The blog hop should be fun and let’s hope there is no more ice whine this spring!!!!

Great job promoting Sunshine Quilters! The Minneapolis airport shut down last Saturday during our epic blizzard that dropped 22” of snow (17” in my yard). Our friend, who’s a Delta pilot, was stranded in MSP, so he stayed in our home until he could get a flight out. Ice Whine, indeed! There are a lot of travel horror stories.

I’m happy to hear you had an amazing time at the Quilt Festival 😊
Ugh, airport travel delays are the worst, I hope Sandy is done with it and home now. Maybe enjoying a big glass of ice wine!
Have fun with the New Quilt Bloggers hop!
