“Your Opinion” Give Away

I need your opinion!

Everyone who comments will have their name entered into a drawing for one package of  American Made Brand 5″ cotton solids in patriotic colors (shown below).

The winner of the drawing will be announced on Monday, June 5, so be sure to check back in with us!

Now, back to why I need your opinion!

I made the quilt below from a kit I purchased from Quilts & Sew Forth in Mentor, Ohio.  It’s a fast and easy pattern that uses two yards of three different fabrics.  BUT  there was not enough fabric in the kit to make the binding.  On to plan B which requires a trip to the quilting store…I love this plan!

What color fabric should I use to make the binding???

Patriotic Table Runner – Free Pattern

rwb_Thankful2Sandy and I wanted to share something special with you as we approach Memorial Day.  Upon reflection, “Thankful” says it all.

The men and women who serve our country are extraordinary.  It is hard to fathom the depth of their patriotism and sacrifice from the comfort of our homes.  These individuals willingly position themselves as a shield between our families, friends and neighbors and the perils of the world.  Let us be thankful for their courage, integrity, dedication and sacrifice.

You can download this pattern from the link below.

We will also be posting this pattern to FaveQuilts.  It’s a great resource for all types of patriotic quilting inspiration.

An Active Guild!

I belong to an active quilt guild.  Each year we do a quilt for a Habitat for Humanity family, a quilt for a family surviving domestic violence and a Quilt of Honor for a United States Veteran.

Last weekend, I finished sewing the top for our Quilt of Honor.  Several guild members worked on the blocks and I finished the last row of chevrons and added the inner and outer borders.  A long arm quilter from the guild will do the quilting.

This is one of my favorite blocks.  I like the plaid and polka dot combo.

Here is another favorite block.  Also, you can see the navy outer border fabric that highlights the entire quilt.

Our guild goes 0n a shopping road trip each year and we have fun picking out the fabrics for our charity quilts.  Most of the time, guild members donate fabrics for the quilt blocks and then we go shopping for the border and binding fabrics to bring everything together in a cohesive quilt.

I have learned so much from my fellow guild members!  Each member has different quilting talents and they inspire me to expand my quilting horizons.  I’m always challenged with new techniques, color placements, fabric choices and patterns.

Do you belong to a quilting guild or group?  Tell us about it!

Patriotic Week

Since it is still the week of July 4th, I thought I’d share another patriotic wall hanging with you.  This pattern is called “Grand Old Flag” and was published in a book called “The Best of Black Mountain Quilts” by Teri Christopherson.  I like the blue and white toile fabric border with the rustic stars and stripes.

Each star is appliqued to a 3″ x 3″ ivory square.  I used the needle turn applique method which was a bit hard with all those star points.  According to the pattern (not me!) the stars don’t have to be in nice, neat rows which made them easier to applique!  I like them wonky!

After looking through this book, I think I will make a few more  Americana quilts from Teri’s designs.  She designed the cutest “Blueberry Basket” table runner and a cute “Blueberry Wreath” wall hanging.

Mom loves to pick blueberries and I think she should have something to remind her of blueberries all year long!  We have been known to pick a few blueberries in our day!  Sorry I got off on a tangent but at least blueberries are a patriotic color!
