Return to Ohio!

Dear Sandy,

I am just so sneaky!  When you left Ohio in August after our whirlwind week of sewing, I secretly kept a vintage block leftover from your “Christmas in Ohio” table runner.

For anyone reading this,  you can download Sandy’s amazing table runner pattern by clicking on this link:  Christmas in Ohio Nov 2018

So, what was I suppose to do with one leftover vintage Ohio Star block?  Well, I made a cute little mini quilt for you!  It was suppose to be a surprise but I just couldn’t help myself and have to share it with everyone.

I hand quilted this block to try and keep that vintage vibe you like so much.  It didn’t take me too long because it’s only 11 inches square.  Here’s a close up preview for you.

I’ll be popping this in the mail for you today.  I am thinking you might want to hang it in your office during the Christmas season.  I hope you’re not too mad at me for sneaking a block from your stash!  Please Return to Ohio so I can sneak more of your fabric into my stash!

Hugs to you and my adorable nephew (who has grown up way too fast)!

Love always, Cindy

Patriotic Vote…A FREE Pattern!

Hi!  It’s Cindy hosting our blog today from the great State of Ohio!

Sandy and I are excited to offer another FREE pattern from our “Patriotic Quilt Series”.

It’s a cute mini wall hanging reminding everyone to be sure and vote during this (and future) election seasons.

This mini is pieced using 1.5 inch squares and half square triangles.  We added a few rectangles to outline the letters and then a few additional white strips to surround our red, white, blue and gold masterpiece.  We used a black border to create a “picture frame” around the quilt.

If you have a small space in your hallway like I do, you’ll appreciate the size;  it’s just 24 inches tall and 9 1/4 inches wide.  What a great way to remind you and all your friends and family to vote on Election Day!

You can download the pattern by clicking on the link below:

We’ll also be posting the pattern to FaveQuilts, one of our all time favorites quilting websites!

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend…maybe you’ll steal some time to sew a “Patriotic Vote” for yourself!

Valentine’s Day Sweet Hearts

I am obsessed with making mini quilted Valentines this year.  The pattern for my mini Valentines is actually my free mug rug pattern.  You can click on this link to download the pattern:  Sweet Heart Mug Rug

I searched through my scraps for interesting color combinations that are “just perfect” for family and friends.  Here’s my stack of Valentines so far;  I’ve popped some of them in the mail already.

I had some left over fabric from the Strawberry Fields Revisited fabric collection by Fig Tree & Co. These colors match the decor in my youngest sister’s house.

Since Sandy likes “Frenchy” (is that a word?) things, she is the lucky recipient of this one.  Work with me on this…I am hopeful it looks like the writing came from Paris!

My older sister lives in Florida and I couldn’t resist making a flamingo Valentine.  It is definitely one of a kind!

Special note:  with the above three Valentines, I deviated from the pattern and combined the inner and outer borders of Step 11 and Step 12.  Each border piece around the heart  is 1.75 inches wide.

The Valentine below goes to my pre-teen neighbor (and dog sitter).  She picked out the blue fabric on a recent shopping trip and I know she will be very happy to see it in her Valentine!

This is my favorite because it reminds me of an English garden.  I mailed it off to my dear friend (DF).  DF, I hope you like it!

Chela from Chela’s Colchas y Mas blog post made a super cute Valentine using my pattern.  She used shades of lavender with a pretty floral.

You still have time to make a few Valentines!  Don’t be afraid to get started!

Glam Girl Lipstick Mini Quilt

My mini quilt obsession continues with another one of Sandy’s great designs!  This  foundation paper pieced pattern is from the Glam Girl Series that Sandy is known for.   Since it’s almost spring here in Ohio, I was inspired to use some “springy” colors from my stash.  What do you think?

I am still “refining” my machine quilting skills.  Since I love polka dots so much, I added more to the binding.  I like the results!

The finished size of this mini quilt is 6 inches wide by 11 inches long.  It is the perfect size to hang in a narrow space AND you can use this pattern for some of those skinny mini quilt swaps!
