Barn Raising

Sandy and I have several group projects in process and one of them is a barn quilt for our brother in law. He grew up on a farm “down the road” a few miles from us. He and our sister live in Florida now so we thought we’d take him on a trip down memory lane with a quilt.

I started looking through my stash and found some fabrics that just might work for a barn or two! How about this Gray Barn siding fabric? A dear friend gave it to me and it’s perfect! It’s also very Buckeye-ish with red fabrics. You know the drill…every true Buckeye loves scarlet and gray…but I digress!

We’re going to make it a very scrappy quilt and add some fun fabrics.

I have a flamingo print and because they live in Florida, we really have no choice but to work it into the barn quilt somehow. Got any ideas? Let us know!

One of the barn block patterns we’re using in our quilt is from Eleanor Burns. You can download it by clicking on the link below. It’s FREE!

Canning Season

My daughter in law asked me to make a quilted cover for her kitchen mixer. Of course I jumped at the chance to make one out of this adorable kitchen fabric she found. Aren’t all these veggies cute?

Over the past month, Sandy and I have been busy canning but in different states. Sandy’s been canning some pickled peppers (I just know Peter Piper would raid her cupboard if he knew…shhhh!)

She’s also canned sweet pickle relish, dill pickle relish and salsa.

Mom was visiting and she helped me can tomatoes and freeze a TON of corn. There is nothing like Midwest sweet corn and home canned tomatoes in soup on a cold winter day. Let’s not forget to add some warm buttered rolls to round out the meal…yum!

What are you quilting and canning during this harvest season?

Bunny Diva IV

Bunny Diva is almost done! Here’s a preview:

Before Bunny Diva goes to the quilter, I thought it best to reinforce the patchwork at the top and the sides with a running stitch. I know my quilter will thank me.

Once Bunny Diva returns from being quilted, I’ll share the finished product. Whew! Done just in time for a new bundle of joy who is expected to arrive on Wednesday.

Bunny Diva III

Bunny Diva continues to perplex me.

I folded her up and put her out of sight (but not out of mind).

I worked on other projects.

I sewed on a border only to have mom rip out the seams.

The saga continues but stay tuned, I hope to have a victory party soon!
