A quick spring update:
- It snowed again here today. I’m not talking flakes, I’m talking snowglobe snow. Sigh.
- I’m so excited to meet up with Cindy in Chicago at the International Quilt Festival this weekend! I can hardly sleep with so many things to think about, like what to pack, what to budget for fabric purchases, where to find a good adult beverage near the convention center — you know, all of the essentials of travelling.
- A friend of mine from work is having a baby. Brave soul: she has a son graduating from high school this year and she has a new baby due in May. I have to say I’m a little jealous! She is beyond happy at this development and I am so happy for her. So of course I’m making a quilt for her from fabric that I’ve been hoarding for some time. It’s called Coconut Grove from South Seas Imports.
I love this print so much, that I just couldn’t cut it apart, so I worked on a pattern that allows for the adorable playful art to shine through. Along with the original print, I also purchased a companion fabric. Seriously, I couldn’t resist.
I added some layer-cake friendly blocks to chunky fabric strips and made a funky monkey baby quilt for the newest member of our zoo. I can’t wait to surprise the “other Sandy” with one more shower gift after Cindy and I get back from Chicago.
That fabric is so much fun!
This. Is. ADORABLE!!!🐒
I wish I could be going to Chicago. I look forward to your post about the trip. Have fun!
Hi Sandy,
Wow – one graduating from high school and a new baby. I was 22 years younger than my next sibling – definitely an oops that I choose to believe became a blessing. I wish your friend well – I’m sure she will love the quilt. It is so cute and I can see why you didn’t want to cut up that fabric. Have fun in Chicago! It is a large event with lots of goodies. I can’t go this year so I’ll enjoy your report. ~smile~ Roseanne
Roseanne: You were most definitely a blessing to your parents! My son came to me late in life and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
I love, love, love this fabric and this block! Can’t wait to see the finished quilt!
Love the baby quilt!
Oh my goodness I bet you and Cindy are going to have an incredible time at the International Quilt Festival – I hope you share some photos on your blog from it.
Snow globe snowing? That is awesome! Never heard that one before but it brings quite the visual to mind. I hope who is ever shaking up the snow globe in your part of the country stops it 🙂
T: We’re thinking about going all ‘Facebook’ live on Thursday at the Festival. Stay tuned!
That would be awesome!
T: We got so focused on shopping and our machine quilting classes that we forgot to go live. Rats!
Oh! Have a ton of fun (like you wouldn’t right) in Chicago! So tempting as I live only 4 hours away…so I feel your weather pain. Those monkeys seems to be so popular with new babies this last little while, and your fabrics (hoarded, rightly so!) are adorable for this new project, which is a great design to preserve that special print for sure. 🙂
Love the monkey quilt! Sorry about the snow 😬
It’s a perfect design to show off that cute fabric and to cuddle a new baby. And, might I add, also the perfect colours to suit the various messes that will come along with him/her 🙂
LOL! My thoughts exactly!
I bet you two are having an awesome time at the Quilt Festival! Enjoy it all and cant wait to see and hear about it 😊
I love the monkey fabric and all the bananas 🍌🍌🍌
