Relationship Goals

When I was about 10 or 11-years-old, I fell in love with Donny Osmond. He could sing, he could dance and he had the cutest smile! And he had a neat sister that I could relate to! My childhood best friend, later in life to become my Quilt Pusher, was a big fan too. When Polaroid cameras became all the rage, I asked my dad to take a picture of my friend and I on our brand new 90cc Honda motorbike. My plan was to send it to Donny. I was pretty certain that one photo would motivate him to wander into my little corner of the world and then he could chose between us (risky because everyone always liked my friend better).  I know, I know, this plan had a lot of other flaws. Tragically, when I told my father what I wanted to do with the picture, dad (who was/is not known for his sensitively) suggested (gently) that we keep this picture to ourselves.

Stymied by my father’s intractable nature, Donny didn’t get to see this picture until– wait for it– this weekend!

June 1971. We tweeted this picture to Donny and Marie, hoping to win back stage passes. It didn’t work, but we’re sure he saw this because everyone manages their own Twitter account, right? @sandradny

Did you know that Donny and Marie Osmond still tour? Indeed, they do. My quilt pusher, childhood friend, and fellow Donny Osmond fan and I scored tickets to their concert at the Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino. Saturday night’s show was one of their last tour dates before the brother-sister team head back to their long-term gig in Las Vegas. Good thing we bought those tickets in May because the concert was sold out!

It was so much fun to see Donny live after all these years! I have to mention that he is still a fine, fine looking man (sorry all you David Cassidy-loving fans–there really just never was any comparison — don’t hate!) Although we didn’t get to meet him personally, it was nice to be in the same room with him (not the room of my dreams, but hey — a girl can’t have everything). And it was very fun to share the experience with the woman who has held the same candle for all these years — that is the real relationship goal after all, isn’t it –to find and keep friends who can remember and enable your dreams?

I monitored my Twitter feed all day long, just in case I received a response, but still no luck…<sigh>

Meanwhile, back at the quilt farm, I’m working on a Dios de la Muertes wall hanging pattern. Fall is definitely beginning to stalk the summer sun.

So, my friend in elementary school has the same birthday as Donny, December 9th! Wasn’t she the luckiest girl ever??!! Did he sing “Puppy Love”? One of my all time faves! Maybe he stopped in at the Texas Hot Restaurant again while in the area? I would have been hanging out there hoping for a sighting!

He only sang a snippet of old songs like Puppy Love. It was enough. I remember Ramona’s birthday was on December 9th — she was a lucky girl. Can you stand one more Donny Osmond tidbit from WNY? About a year ago my friend and customer ran into him at a local restaurant (The Texas Hot) and she got a hug and a picture with him. It seems that he has visited the area many times because a long-time friend of his grew up here. Who knew???!!!

Oh this is so awesome! I was completely addicted to the Donny & Marie show as a kid! I was however in love with Micheal Jackson but I did appreciate the sheer adorableness of Donny. I did love Marie more as she reminded me of one of my Barbie dolls (I was obsessed with women who looked like Barbie when I was a kid, and never missed the Miss America Pageant – they were live Barbies!). The photo is awesome and that it got sent – so many years later! 🙂
