Thankfully yours!

Here it is October and Thanksgiving will be here before we know it!  Our family will be celebrating Thanksgiving together and I wanted to make something special for our table.

I’ve been playing around with words in new quilt designs and the word “thankful” kept popping into my head so I decided to go for it!  Before I knew it, I had a string of letters that would fit nicely on a 72 inch table!

I had a lot of cream and tan scraps on hand so I decided to use these colors for the background.  For the letters, I used tone on tone fabrics in darker fall colors.  I like how the darker letters stand out against the lighter background fabrics.  Sandy is always encouraging me to cut out 2 1/2 inch squares ahead of time to have on hand…but I confess I had to cut them out as I was sewing!

With all these scrappy background squares, I decided to use a 1 1/2 inch olive green inner border to calm things down.  As a grand finale, I added a 3 1/4inch outer border in a colorful, small fall print which nicely pulls together all the colors in the letters.

As you can see, I haven’t quilted this yet!  In my September 22nd post, I wrote about having machine quilting woes.  My plan is to quilt this with my regular sewing machine and a walking foot.  With the walking foot I can quilt nice straight lines around all these squares.  I can’t procrastinate too long because we will be using it soon!  This week, my plan is to assemble  the quilt sandwich and get started.  Getting started is the hardest part for me.  Once I get started I know I will gain confidence and who knows…I might get wild and crazy and quilt some wavy lines!

If you would like to make this table runner for Thanksgiving, you still have time!  You can download the pattern here:  thankful-table-runner-10-16-16

Thankfully yours,

Cindy
